Long Term Practice

Many times we tend to think that if we do our practice than it is enough. Sri K. Pattabhi Jois did say “practice, practice, practice and all is coming” and it is true in the sense that if you put some awareness into it and you keep on doing it day in day out you will get to all is coming maybe, but what is this all is coming? What did he really mean? Pattabhi also said without Yama & Niyama there is no yoga. So basically it is not really only the asana practice or the vinyasa practice; it is the practice you do “in between”. If we take it this way maybe we can put the awareness into action and than maybe enhance the changes. When we start to practice the fact that we do is already a big change. But then after a while we need to watch the vinyasa between practices. We need to watch our diet, we need to make the extra push or intensify a bit more the meaning of it and the presence of it in our daily life. On the other hand we might not be in a state that permits us to see beyond our mat, because it takes a lot of practice…and all is coming… It might also be the deep will to change. Not everybody understand from the start the possibility to change not everybody is looking for that. If you stick around enough you will experience that. Most of us start practising yoga to improve something; if it is our back condition, stress, flexibility, strength, the relationship with ourselves…etc. We are all here on the mat in order to make something better. This is looking for a change. Immediately we encounter with a physical and emotional release. We get high and low, we become more connected with our own energy and with the most intimate fibre of our being – our breath. And although the effort is real we come out lighter, relaxed and maybe more efficient in our functions. So after a few months of practice we should make the effort of looking at the process or the development and maybe help ourselves a bit more. It is not good enough to practice a few times a week and then eating and drinking with no limits. No benefits and maybe even deeper no commitment, and the commitment is not with the teacher but with ourselves. Practice, practice, practice and all is coming, with devotion, dedication and intention. If we want to go deeper we should consider this seriously.
